More Information
Clinical condition resembling Asthma like difficult breathing is commonly seen in Bronchitis. Bronchitis is an inflammation of the main air passages (bronchi) to lungs. It is of 2 types: acute and chronic. Both types cause cough which can bring up yellow or green mucus, shortness of breath and chest tightness.
Asthma is defined as a common chronic disorder of the airways characterized by variable and recurring symptoms. When someone suffers from Asthma, certain triggers cause the muscle around the walls of the airways to tighten so that the airway becomes inflamed and starts to swell often with production of sticky mucus or phlegm making breathing difficult.
Common Asthma triggers include animals (pet hair or dander), dust, changes in weather (most often cold weather), chemicals in the air or in food, exercise, mold, pollen, Respiratory Infections such as the common cold, strong emotions (stress), tobacco smoke.
Common symptoms of Asthma in a steady-state may include any one or all of the following
Nighttime coughing, Shortness of breath with exertion but no dyspnoea at rest, a Chronic 'throat-clearing' type cough and complaints of a tight feeling in the chest. Cough may sometimes produce clear sputum.
